Technique and Performance classes form the basis for ballet instruction. As such, it is important for all dancers to master the basics before moving on to harder classes.
Since dancers learn differently based on their age, there are a few different options for first ballet classes.
All classes in this program run for a full dance season (September through May) and perform in the annual Spring Recital. All enrolled dancers are expected to perform with their class, unless a conflict with the recital dates is noted and discussed at registration.

Ballet 1
|
Ballet 1 combines dancers who have successfully completed Preliminary Ballet, as well as dancers new to ballet. Each class includes stretches, barre work, center work and traveling steps. Goals for this level include: mastery of the steps, ability to show and identify the five positions of the feet, knowing their rights and lefts, and ability to memorize and perform a recital dance without watching the other dancers in their class. [$297 per year, + recital and costume fee]

Ballet 1
Ballet 1 Advanced |
Our 11 to 13 year old beginners cover a wide range of learning styles. Some dancers benefit from a slow and steady approach, while others thrive at a quicker pace. For this reason, Pas de Deux Dance Studio encourages dancers to try both Ballet 1 and Ballet 1 Advanced (if space is available) their first week of class to see which pace is best for them.
Ballet 1 Advanced focuses on the same patterns as Ballet 1, but adds in the additional framework needed to progress into higher level classes. Dancers who start in this level are generally good at memorization, are self motivated to practice at home, and aren't afraid to ask questions. These classes will also include dancers (ages 8 through 13) who have successfully completed Ballet 1. [$297 per year, + recital and costume fee]

Ballet 1-2 |
Teens generally have well developed memorization skills, as well as a greater understanding of how their muscles work than younger dancers do. For this reason, our young teen dancers start their dance journey in either Ballet 1 Advanced or Ballet 1-2.
Ballet 1-2 provides its dancers with more complicated patterns while making sure each dancer has mastered the basic ballet technique necessary for harder classes. Dancers also work on performance concepts such as spacing / formations, connecting steps to specific beats in the music, and dancing as a cohesive group. These classes will also include dancers (ages 9 to 14) who have successfully completed Ballet 1 Advanced. [$297 per year, + recital and costume fee]
